“From the moment the assistant ca...”
From the moment the assistant called me back to the room, she was grouchy and disrespectful. I tried to ignore the attitude, hoping I wouldn't have to interact with her much. Sadly, this was not the case, and both she and the provider proved dismissive of my medical concerns. In fact, they treated my health Inquiries as if they were unimportant, even trivial. Although admittedly, I am not seriously ill ,or even ill at all, I was there to seek their assistance in staying healthy, and ideally become healthier. Besides, doesn't every patient deserve to be heard and cared for, regardless of their health status? Instead, I felt dismissed, even mocked. For example, when I requested a LMN to receive massage therapy for my sore shoulders, arms, and back as well as tension headaches (caused by over exposure to computer work, not to mention the stress of raising a toddler...), the assistant practically rolled her eyes at me, and--with a sneer--told me she would "check with the provider." When she returned, the sneer was still firmly in place, and she demanded to know "what kind of massage" I needed. What kind of massage?? How would I know what kind of massage? Am I a massage therapist?? Isn't that for the professional(s) to decide what particular type of massage therapy I need?? Flabbergasted, I struggled to answer her odd question, and clearly I failed, since no LMN letter was granted--and I was given no explanation why. If I didn't make my case for its necessity, I understand that, but it's fair for the doctor herself to say so-or, better yet, ask further questions about why I feel this particular therapy is warranted and what, exactly, was ailing me. She did not. Instead, both she and her assistant dismissed the request completely. And, for the record, the assistant gave me roughly 15 seconds to make my case, while sneering at me, her hand on the door to indicate I better hurry up and answer. Once the request was denied, I was given no chance to ask any questions or receive an explanation, and I was so flustered, I didn't fight it. When I left the room, I saw the doctor at a computer just outside the door. She quickly covered her face so I couldn't speak to her, and the doctor sitting next to her looked up at me with a "Is that her?!" look of curiosity on her face. At this point, I got the feeling the assistant and my "doctor" had been mocking my request--and me. Perhaps they were not. I obviously cannot prove it, but the entire interaction was definitely negative, and at the end of the day, perception is reality, and my perception is that this physician and her assistant failed on two fronts: 1). They did NOT treat me with respect and 2). They did not take my health concerns seriously. Their lack of professionalism makes me question their judgment overall, and I do not feel comfortable being in this physician's "care." I'll be finding a new one. It's a shame, too, because when I met the doctor last year, I thought she was great and truly liked her. What a difference a year makes
