“Brilliant, Compassionate, Empathic”
I was hospitalized last year with a recurring infection in my leg, which kept getting worse. I was transferred to Northwestern from a community hospital when they realized there was nothing more they could do for me there. Dr. Dumanian was the surgeon assigned to me, and I count my blessings for that. The community hospital talked about amputating my leg; Dr. Dumanian removed all of the infected tissue, then did a skin graft.
After six weeks at the community hospital, the first time I knew I was going to be ok was when Dr. Dumanian came in to see me. He sat down, and explained our options - amputation was never one of them! - and told me what he thought was best. I knew by his confidence and his compassionate attitude that I would be ok.
He followed me for a year after the surgeries, while the skin graft healed. He is very thorough, and is a brilliant doctor. As brilliant as he is, he is equally as humble. In my mind, he is nothing short of a miracle worker, yet he brushes off such comments, saying that he didn't do much, and that the patient did all the hard work.
He is compassionate and empathic - something I really haven't seen in surgeons, especially surgeons of his caliber.
I am not surprised to see that Dr. Dumanian has gotten such glowing reviews here - he is THAT good!
