“Inititially I was surprised and ...”

Inititially I was surprised and upset that Shane was not aware of my full history dating back a few months. Once he realized that there was an ongoing issue that was not resolving he sought the full history and came up with a different plan. I believe had I stayed on the same treatment I would have been in the hospital a 3rd time.
