“Gaining Independence”
After a catastrophic auto accident that rendered me non-weight bearing for 3 months I had the opportunity to be under the care of Mitchel Maceda, PT, at the VA Medical Center.
During the first 3 months there was not a whole lot that I could do for rehab. However, Mitchel Maceda did not take that as a road block to move forward in my care. Mitchel printed out pictures, placed the pictures on the walls of my hospital room. I was able to look at the pictures and follow the exercises well. Not only did it help my overall strength to prepare me for PT once I was weight bearing - it was a moral booster. There were times during those 3 months the lows got very low! Even after being transferred to another VA facility I took those pictures with me and followed the exercises. It was an incredible uplift and confidence builder to know that someone cared enough about their job to think outside of the box.
I am now walking, in a walker, thanks to the continued PT advice and follow through by Mitchel Maceda who was able to continue working with me every few weeks on a rotation to Livermore VA. I
Thank you, seems like such a slight statement to express. Especially when getting back the use of your legs is a vital function in life. Thank you, none-the-less, Mitchel, best wishes in all of your future endeavors.
