A doctor who really cares.

My family and I have been Dr. Gujja’s patients for about 6 years. First of all, let me say that Dr. Gujja is extremely kind and actually cares about her patients. When my mother was in very bad shape in intensive care and hope was fading fast, Dr. Gujja came into the room to talk to us. My two nieces (college students) who were raised by my mother, were there and very distraught. Dr. Gujja tried to explain to them that even if my mother survived, she would never be like she was before. My nieces, crying, told her that they didn’t care, that they would take care of their grandmother, no matter how she was. Tears welled up in Dr. Gujja’s eyes and she had to leave the room for a moment, and we knew that she understood our pain, and shared our pain because she was in fact losing a patient who she, also, cared about. She understands the dynamics in our family, and the difficulties we’ve faced, but also understands the strength of our relationships and the caring and love that bind us. If the day comes, when I am unable to make a decision about my care, I feel assured that Dr. Gujja will clearly know what I would want because she knows me and she cares.
Second, Dr. Gujja has a quiet demeanor, but do not be mistaken; her claws will come out if her patients are not treated properly. Another doctor, who was treating my mother, spoke to me in a demeaning, rude and crass way at a time when I was very vulnerable, bending under the stress of caring for my mother who was hospitalized. When I told Dr. Gujja about it, she called that doctor, and while I don’t know what she said to him, within 15 minutes, a very contrite and humbled doctor called me to apologize for his rude behavior. Dr. Gujja takes the job of being your doctor very seriously and doesn’t put up with any deviation from what is considered good care. Having her on your side makes you feel safe. Third, Dr. Gujja is very smart, but also very humble. If she is not getting the response to treatment that she expects, she readily refers you to a specialist for another look at the problem. Having complex health problems, I depend on her to pull all these specialties together and coordinate them, and I know, to the best of her ability, she will not let me fall through the cracks of multi-disciplined care.
Last, I can tell you that, when I have an appointment, I never wait more than 20 minutes (and more often less than 10 minutes). Her office staff is very friendly and when needed, they will fit you in to be seen. If you need a refill, they will make sure it’s taken care of right away. We feel lucky to have Dr. Gujja as our family doctor because we know she cares and will always give us her best. For these reasons, I highly recommend her.
