“Stephanie is the Physician Assis...”
Stephanie is the Physician Assistant of my dreams! She listens patiently and carefully, and she gives me enough time to explain where all the pain is, what all the difficulties are, how long each item has been going on, and what hurts where, in order of severity. She did not immediately decide what the problem was, but instead listened and understood what I was talking about. She said it looked like One Thing on the surface, but as she continued to check the Xrays she had ordered she saw --- and said she saw --- that no, it wasn't what she first thought --- it was something more complicated that would take more tests before any conclusions could be reached and treatment started. She took her time. She treated me like I was the most important thing in the world at that moment --- she put all her thought and concentration into trying to figure out what in the world was wrong with all the different parts of my hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder. Turns out it is not just a simple thing --- it is going to take more searching and testing. This is the mark of the medical practitioner of my dreams: the person who takes me seriously, who listens, who does not just jump on the first possible "diagnosis" but who keeps asking questions and studying things until she can figure out the correct thing to do next. This is enormously important to me, the patient, the one with the painful problem that is getting worse. I am so grateful for Stephanie, so grateful to be taken seriously, so grateful to be treated like a person and not a problem. This is what I feel Dignity Health is really about: treating each patient like they are the most important person in the world right now, and that whatever the problem is, Dignity Health is going to take care of it. Stephanie embodies this promise. I am so glad she is my PA.
