“My visit was for consultation be...”
My visit was for consultation because of CHEK2 mutation that increases my risk of breast cancer. While she did not recommend a prophylactic mastectomy, she asked if I had considered it and when I said that I had, she explained very thoroughly what it would entail. I left with a plan, which is to take comfort in the 70% chance that I will never get breast cancer, and that I will be vigilant in my screening, having annual mammogram and breast MRI, which will catch any cancer very early. I would likely want to get a double mastectomy if any cancer was found (my preference and not her recommendation) and now am more knowledgeable about what that would entail. I thought that she was very respectful of my opinions, was not dismissive of my concerns, and was supportive of my plan going forward.
