Hospice is about ensuring comfort, dignity and quality of life for the time we have left together—and ideally, end-of-life care happens at home. But there are times when hospice patients have pain or other symptoms that are hard to manage at home. We can help, providing a home away from home at The Service League of Greenville Hospice House. Patients and families can be together as hospice staff work to make everyone comfortable.
What's it like?
Our spacious eight-bed hospice house has all of the comforts of home. Patients have a private room and bath and access to the garden area from the room’s patio door. The house also has a:
- Private patient room and bath
- Family living room
- Health garden
In addition, we offer on-site hospice services, 24-hour visitation, convenient parking and Wi-Fi. Children and pets are welcome.
Hospice House offers three levels of care
Respite: Short-term stays to allow the caregiver the opportunity to go out of town, seek medical services for themselves or simply rest.
GIP (general inpatient): Occasionally a hospice patient may experience pain or symptoms that cannot be controlled in the home setting. Patients can be admitted to the hospice house instead of being admitted to the hospital and family members can stay at the bedside. Once the pain or symptoms are relieved, the patient may return to the place they call home.
Residential: Short-term residential beds may be recommended by the hospice interdisciplinary team. Patients will be considered for appropriateness. For more information, please call 252-847-1242. Your hospice case manager will work with you and your family to identify the best care setting for your needs.
Inpatient hospice care at other ECU Health facilities
ECU Health also provides inpatient hospice services at several hospitals throughout our region. You and your family will have access to all the support services you need to honor life’s final journey with comfort, dignity and peace.
Visitor policy
Visitors may enter and exit the building through the main entrance between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Visitors may spend the night, but if they leave the building after 9 p.m., they will not be allowed to reenter before 7 a.m. unless called by RN team members and/or receive permission to do so (limit of six overnight visitors allowed per patient).
What is hospice?
Hospice is specialized care for individuals with a terminal or life-limiting illness. Patients whom have chosen not to seek curative treatment embrace the hospice philosophy. The focus and goal for a hospice patient is to have symptoms and pain managed while maintaining quality of life and dignity for their remaining days. Hospice provides medical, social, emotional and spiritual support for the patient and family. Hospice does not hastens or slows the natural dying process.
Hospice is about hope, love, care, comfort and compassion.
Each person’s experiences will be unique. The care is personalized and designed to meet each patient’s choices and goals. This is a journey. ECU Health hospice team is honored to support you and your family during such an incredibly important time.
Volunteers are a very important part of hospice. To become a hospice volunteer call 252-847-1242 and ask to speak with the volunteer coordinator.
