- ECU Health is home to some of medicines' most advanced surgical equipment. We have the daVinci robotic surgical system. In fact, the first mitral valve repair surgery in the United States using minimally invasive robotic technology was performed at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville in 2000.
- When possible, surgeons use minimally invasive surgical techniques. This means small surgical tools and cameras are inserted into your body through very small incisions. Skilled surgeons use the camera to guide them through the procedure. Incisions can often be closed with just a few stitches. The advantages of minimally invasive surgery are quicker recovery time, less pain and decreased chance of infection.
- We offer an alternative to inpatient hospitalization. More than 12,000 procedures are performed every year at the ECU Health SurgiCenter, a free-standing outpatient surgical facility in Greenville.
- We're home to the first hybrid operating room in eastern North Carolina. The hybrid OR at The East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU Health Medical Center is an operating room equipped with a sophisticated imaging system that allows physicians to perform minimally invasive cardiac and vascular procedures with greater precision than ever before. For patients, a hybrid OR means reduced recovery time, better outcomes and getting back to normal routines quicker.
