Both the intake nurse and Doctor, before even getting to know me, made comments about my looks and how "I look so young so surely, I'm fine."Sir or madam, whoever is reading this, I came to your office for an INTERNAL MEDICINE appointment. Not to be assessed for my looks, my perceived age, or to receive societal judgments that are FAR too common for women on a daily basis. Clearly, those comments were flippant, unprofessional, and did not start the appointment off well. I corrected both of them, saying that a woman's body begins many changes in her mid 30's and I would like to have this appointment focus on how I am feeling, opposed to my looks. Both the nurse and doctor were bristly and on edge throughout the rest of the appointment, which also did not make me feel safe or as if I was going to receive trusted, facts-based information moving forward. The doctor then proceeded to say how she wanted to give me information about targeted treatments, but then also suggested birth control as a means of, "let's try it out and see if that makes me feel better." Birth control would not be targeted, and given how the doctor literally said I don't have hormone imbalances, this is the definition of a blanket approach to my personal care. This appointment was the perfect example of how women's care gets diminished by perceived biases, downplaying of symptoms, and then defensiveness when a patient is reiterating the type of issues she's navigating. It was a mess and I was so upset by how I was treated.

Dr. Lee was outstanding in every way. Spent time explaining diagnosis, showed us diagrams of hip area that is hurting, listened, answered questions, conducted physical exam with care, very kind, personable, respectful, and totally wonderful. Loved her.
