Insurance providers require a psychiatric diagnosis for treatment, and they also demand detailed information on condition and treatment. These requirements are a threat to patient confidentiality, as your information may become known to others. With privately paid treatment, you are assured greater privacy; also, if you have concerns (such as relationship issues) that do not fit into psychiatric classification system, you do not get put into a category that does not really fit you.
