Dr. DePietro continues to follow my progress, and I will meet with him in three months to determine the next steps. His cheerful and thorough explanations are appreciated.

I've had reflux for decades. I love singing but my voice had become "old" and "scratchy" over the last 20 years. In a previous visit, Dr DiPietro inserted an overnight pH tracker (whatever its name is) inside my throat and discovered my pH was in normal range, so I stopped taking omeprazole and famotidine, and not only do my stomach and voice feel fine, but I watch people swaying in their seats when I sing at services, but I still keep clearing what I think is post-naval drip (gooey phlegm) on my vocal cords. Although he explained it all in the previous visit, I didn't remember or didn't absorb it all, and when I felt what-I-thought-was-"gunk" on my cords, I would cough it up, which was irritating my throat. He showed me my vocal cords again on the screen and explained that what I feel is "gunk" is actually moisture to help my cords, and referred me again to the speech therapist to help me break this habit. Sorry this was so long, but I am so thankful for all he has done.

Visually demonstrated glottic closure of vocal folds is not complete during vocalization, leading to belief that this is due to age-related vocal fold musculature atrophy. No cancer, no nodules noted. Recommended speech therapy at Goshen Speech and Hearing Center. Dr. DiPietro was friendly , positive and informative.
