Talking to this provider was like talking to a brick wall of text or being in a lecture hall. At one point, she talked for 10 minutes straight and I couldn't get a word in. I also informed the provider that I was scared of dying from this. Any provider worth their salt would recognize these as anxious or intrusive thoughts, clearly a patient being vulnerable. All of 5 minutes later she proceeded to list all the reasons I might die from this. I asked her lightheartedly to stop, and perhaps she thought I was joking, but I could feel my face turning red and tears welling so I can only extend so much understanding. For the last 20 minutes, I was clearly blinking back tears and my voice was breaking, and she just ignored it. Either she lacks the ability to read social cues or she simply doesn't care, but either way, I left crying and stayed that way for a while. I was so hopeful for this visit because I just wanted someone to listen with empathy and help me with guidance. Instead, it elevated my feelings of anxiety, shame and belittlement that a provider in this field should care about not doing. She would do well as a professor, not so much a provider.

Dr.Garner did not seem to care what I had to say. She talked about a book that helped you establish a mostly carnivorous anti-inflammatory diet. She said it was great for treating the symptoms of Autism among other things. Autism is not a disease that needs to be treated. I was very offended. It was also strange to hear her talk about how I should eat all the meat I want and that almost all bread is bad. I read that this clinic uses the plate method and she was nowhere near recommending that unless half the plate was meat. She compared an order of french fries to smoking 25 cigarettes in how bad they are for your body. It was weird. It was uncomfortable. I am considering asking for another provider for my next visit, but I still want to see the fellow of hers that did the intake.

I've only seen Dr. Garner twice now but both times she has been a wealth of information and has gone above and beyond spending time with me to understand the treatment, causes, and solutions for a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. It's clear she's extremely passionate about nutrition and equally passionate about educating and helping patients. In two visits alone, she's helped me more on my health journey than any doctor in over 20 years for life-long obesity-related struggles. I'm grateful to have found her and excited to continue my health journey with her.

Dr. Garner is excellent!! She is so smart, well versed in her field, so very knowledgeable. Takes her time to explain and really listens to my concerns. Unfortunately, I have seen many doctors over the past 20 years and Dr. Garner stand out among the very best.
