Dr. Steen enlisted in the US Army in 1987. His first assignment was with the 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry, 10th Mountain Division, Ft. Drum, NY where he served as a field medical specialist. He later trained as a practical nurse and was assigned to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Korea, and Ft. Bragg, NC.
