I originally went with this provider due to the care she provided my partner at the time, but while she is nice enough, I do not feel I get the same sort of attention. I do not come in a lot, and I more often see a PA or NP because this provider's schedule is full. This time, I requested the appointment both to address a minor injury and to bring up concerns about multiple items listed in my health issues that I felt were not being addressed. When I brought this up, I said it badly, or it was taken wrong, and there was a disagreeable edge to the remainder of the visit, with the provider lecturing me on needing to come in and talk about these things. I explained that was exactly what I was doing. I did not think to mention that it took weeks for me to get on her schedule, or that I had been in two times since seeing her last, albeit with her PAs or other MDs (who were great, by the way).Despite my repeated assurances that I was not casting aspersions on her, the appointment seemed tainted. I wanted referrals to three specialists for items listed in my chronic issues list-something I feel could have been done long ago. My concern was that I had prescriptions for BP and cholesterol, while the rest of my issues were merely listed rather than addressed. I made clear to her that this had been the trend for may years, but all previous doctors, and was not about her, but that I wanted to address them now. This appointment-requested by me to talk about these issues, bring my own ideas, and request referrals-seemed to create unnecessary hurt feelings on her part, making the whole meeting feel awkward and uncomfortable.I have no doubt about this provider's skills and medical knowledge. However, for someone who does not come in often, experiencing such conflict when I do-and when I try to participate in the direction of my own healthcare-creates a dynamic where I don't fully trust that I can come in and express my concerns. In the end she did give me the referrals I requested.

Dr. Mitchell is a wonderful provider and I will miss her greatly when she retires. I appreciated her guidance in how to deal with an aging brain that isn't remembering details but is using all my accumulated wisdom. I wish her well and am so grateful for her care for these many years.
