Digital preparedness during COVID-19

The digital tools once used by physicians and hospitals for their convenience properties have become lifesaving prevention measures to slow the spread of COVID-19. Take the following 5 steps to help more patients during these trying times and ready your practice, clinic, or hospital for an uncertain future.

STEP 1

Update listings information so patients can find and reach you

Whether you have adjusted your office hours, set up a patient hotline, started offering virtual visits, or are taking other measures, make sure patients can access the most up-to-date information about your practice.

STEP 2

Monitor your reviews to identify problems and make adjustments as needed

Reviews can shed light into performance issues — especially points of communication failure. Frustrated patients having difficulty contacting the front office may also resort to reviews as a way of getting heard. Test-drive tools that do sentiment analysis to take the pulse of what’s happening outside of your purview.

STEP 3

Modify your online scheduling capacity based on your practice’s needs

Make sure all locations and physicians keep their office hours up to date. Adjust your availability to reflect any changes, including expanded or reduced business hours, virtual appointments, and walk-in opportunities.

STEP 4

Consider virtual visits or partner with a telemedicine company to limit face-to-face interaction

HIPAA announced that it’s relaxing penalties to let doctors conduct virtual visits via audio and video technologies. This is a critical step for practicing “social distancing,” restricting the need for in-office contact, and slowing the spread of COVID-19.

STEP 5

Don’t throw the customer experience and service out the window

In a time of crisis, the need for humanity and understanding is never more apparent. Don’t forget to show the human side of your practice by reminding patients of your care philosophy, using video, offering advice, practicing active listening, and more.
